INFORMATION FOR COMPETITORS
When to get there:
Registered competitors are welcome to arrive as early as 3:30pm on Friday, 11/15. This is when Drew plans to check into the bnb.
This year, we are going to soft start Friday at 9:00pm no matter what, meaning that teams can start earning points for challenges at that time. Don't worry, we won't start any big events like the Opening Ceremony until everyone arrives. This allows Jessethon to start promptly without delays while also ensuring that nobody misses anything important.
Where to get:
For Airbnb info & address, check the pinned message(s) or description of the Jessethon 2024 groupme. Competitors will be added to this group once they complete registration.
Beds
All of the beds/rooms can be viewed in the "Where you'll sleep" section of the airbnb listing. The tentative sleeping arrangements can be viewed in the JTHON '24 BEDS google sheet, which you can also find via the groupme.
You can use this google sheet to reserve any available beds/couches that may still be left, if you haven't already. If you do not have a bed or couch reserved, you are responsible for bringing your own air mattress/sheets/pillow/hammock or whatever you'd prefer to sleep on.
What to bring (logistically):
- Any shit like clothes/toiletries that you would normally need for a weekend away.
- We are going to spend a lot of time outside Saturday, and it might be a tad chilly, so be prepared! (Also the ground might be a tiny bit wet?)
- A towel, if you'd like one. They have towels, but probably not enough for all of us. (Sheets are provided too. You don't need those if you reserved a bed.)
- An air mattress etc., if you need one (see bed info above).
- Food/Drinks/Snacks for yourself (more info below).
- Reuseable drink cup & water bottle to use throughout the weekend, to reduce waste.
- There is a SAUNA, so bring your sauna clothes if you so desire.
What to bring (for FUN!):
I'm planning to wear clothes representing my country of origin on Fri night for the opening ceremony, and more athletic wear for the Main Events on Saturday. You can do whatever you want, of course. We will be taking the group pic on Saturday, as usual.
That said, you should consider bringing:
- Clothes to represent your team's color and also your country of origin?
- Whatever athletic wear/shoes you need for competing on Saturday (IF you plan on doing physically strenuous events (don't worry, there will be plenty of events that are NOT physically strenuous too!))
- An instrument for playing the national anthem on Saturday!
- At least one person needs to bring a cake of course, see food signup form below
- Outside/lawn/camping chairs, for spectating events outside!!!
- If anyone has a folding table they could bring, PLEASE DO it would come in handy!
Food etc.
Food
Lke in previous years, you will be on your own for food, mostly. You should plan on NO food being provided/prepared for the group. Any food and snacks and drinks that you might want must be brought by YOU. OR plan on going somewhere to get it. This includes Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast/lunch/dinner, and anything on Sunday.
There are plenty of food options about 15mins away, including a grocery store, so if there's anything we need while there, we should have no trouble getting it.
The simplest plan for food is probably this:
- Get your own dinner on your way to the house on Friday.
- Eat simple stuff that you brought for Saturday breafast/lunch, and Sunday if you want. (Unless people bring breakfast stuff for Sat/Sun, see below.)
- We order a bunch of pizzas or something for everyone on Satuday night, and anyone who doesn't want that can get something else or eat food that they brought. BUT remember that if you drink and stuff during competition on Saturday, driving to food store might not be an option. Not sure if we can do grubhub n shit to the house, did anyone do that last year??
FOOD ETC. COORDINATION
Like last year, I think it's nice when we coordinate food for breakfast and stuff. We also need a cake and it'd be nice to have a few supplies.
In this google sheet is everything that I think it'd be nice to have. This is pretty much the stuff that we got last year.
If you want to help out, go ahead and sign up to bring something in that sheet. You will be reimbursed afterwards (by dividing the cost among the group) if you enter the cost of what you bought. All of this is voluntary and not necessary. Also note the supplies at the bottom. That's all, thanks for helping if you do!
Drink
Drinks are also BYO. It is a good idea to come with enough drinks for yourself to last the weekend (however much that is for you).
The Airbnb has two fridges so hopefully that's enough room for all our stuff.
Tentative Schedule
In this picture is the general structure for the weekend. As usual, everyone is free to relax/hang once competition ends Sat afternoon. And probs go to winery (weather permitting).
The schedule of "main" sanctioned events to take place on Saturday can be seen in the official rules doc. Competitors will sign up on Friday night for which events they want to do on Saturday. You must work with your team (strategize) to decide who should compete in what.
